PELADN is a Chinese manufacturer that produces mini PCs as well as graphics cards and some other peripherals. This article is dedicated to the HO4 8845HS mini PC, a mini PC classified in the "Gaming" category of the site.
Product Models:
In its “Gaming” range, PELADN offers three different models:
the HO4 8845HS , featuring an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU ;
the HO4 12450H , featuring an Intel 12450H CPU ;
the HO4 13620H , featuring an Intel 13620H CPU .
II-A. Characteristics
Presentation of the PC
The machine measures 13.6cm x 12.8cm x 5.2cm and weighs 886g.
II-B. Connectors
In terms of connectivity, the PELADN HO4 8845HS has:
The PELADN HO4 8845HS arrives in a box covered with a flexible cardboard packaging with "HO" written as well as the brand name and a brief description of the product. The letters HO in the center reflect light in several colors.
On the back is a label with the exact mention of the product and its serial number. The box must be slipped in from one side to remove it from its wrapping band and opens by lifting the lid.
Once the lid is removed, the mini PC is accessible. This is protected by a foam block in which it is anchored. The PC can be taken out by lifting it thanks to the plastic label protecting it.
The PELADN HO4 8845HS is a mini PC with a cubic shape and a grey color
The edges are provided with a semi-transparent plastic border. The top has a raised pattern made up of small squares. The squares in the center allow you to see the letters HO in orange.
The left and right sides take up this pattern. On the left side there is also an "LED" button to change the color and animation of the PC's LEDs. These are placed below the plastic edging on the top side.
The front panel consists of four hexagonal screws. The front has a hidden button to reset the BIOS, the Jack port, the USB 3 Type-C port, two USB 3.2 Type-A ports, and the power button.
As for the back, there is the PC's hot air outlet, as well as the power input, a USB 4 port, two RJ-45 ports, an HDMI port, a DisplayPort port and two USB 2.0 ports.
The underside of the PC once again reveals the pattern with the squares, four Phillips screws, two screw threads for wall mounting and four rubber feet.
II-D. LED
As mentioned earlier, all four sides of the top side are illuminated by LEDs. This looks like this:
The power button also lights up when the machine is running.
rainbow;
extinct;
white with a breathing effect;
static white;
orange with a breathing effect;
static orange;
Alternating colors
Ps. However, there is no software to control the LEDs
As can be seen in the photo above, the underside can be unscrewed(One of the screws is marked.)
After unscrewing, the underside can be removed, however, the thermal conduction pad will certainly be a little attached to the SSD. In addition, a fan is attached to this panel, so it will have to be unplugged from the motherboard.
From now on, the interchangeable elements (SSD, RAM and WiFi chip) can be manipulated.
It is also possible to remove the reflective frame by unclipping it.
By unscrewing the front and back side, as well as four screws placed at the corners of the motherboard, it will be possible to take it out. Nevertheless, the two wires from the WiFi chip are attached to the edges of the casing, as well as the LED lighting.
II-F. CPU
The PELADN HO4-8845HS integrates an AMD CPU, the Ryzen 7 8845HS. This operates at a base frequency of 3.8 GHz and can reach up to 5.1 GHz in boost. It offers 64 KB of L1 cache (including 32 KB for instructions), 1 MB of L2 cache, and 16 MB of L3 cache. The only 8000 series model above (for laptops): the Ryzen 7 8945HS clocked at 4.0 GHz (with a boost of up to 5.2 GHz). The following table compares the different CPUs that can be found in the HO4 series of PELADN mini PCs as well as the Ryzen 7 8945HS.
II-F-1. CPU-Z
The GPU integrated into the CPU is from the Phoenix family and is based on the RDNA 3 architecture. Bearing the Radeon 780M logo, it has 12 cores clocked at 2.7 GHz, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 support. It supports DirectX 12_2, OpenGL 4.6, OpenCL 3.0, Vulkan 1.3, DirectCompute, and DirectML.
As well as the performance achieved with Crystal Disk Mark:
The BIOS, Aptio, is provided by American Megatrends International and is version 2.22.1289. Thus, we find the classic blue and gray BIOS. To access it, you have to press the "Delete" key. The F7 key allows you to access the menu to choose which device to boot on.
Main: to find general information about the machine and set the date. Only English is offered in terms of languages;
"Advanced": allows access to more advanced options classified into subcategories:
IV-A. Benchmarks
On average, the CPU stays at a temperature of 40°C when the machine is not doing anything. During intensive use of it: Cinebench R23, the temperature reached 85°C for a short time, but usually, it stays around 77°C. In terms of frequency, the CPU runs at 4.32 GHz and is not limited by temperature (throttling). When starting up an intense task, the AMD 8845HS boosts its performance in the first few seconds and consumes up to 65 W. Then, the CPU stabilizes at 54 W.
When tested with the Superposition benchmark, the CPU averaged 53°C while the integrated GPU reported a temperature of up to 63°C.
From the outside, except for a little hot air coming out of the back of the machine, the housing stays cool.
The power consumption of the PELADN HO4 8845HS was captured by a power meter directly at the outlet in the following scenarios:
Obviously, the PELADN HO4 8845HS can be used like any other PC: office automation, Internet, development, modeling and so on. However, the following uses are all the more interesting thanks to its small size.
As with any other machine, it is possible to turn the PELADN HO4 8845HS into a server and let it run with just the power supply and an Ethernet cable. Yunohost, a Linux distribution, will allow you to quickly configure useful services. More details are available in this tutorial.
By plugging the PELADN HO4 8845HS into a TV and installing Kodi, it is possible to get a versatile media player that can play all the files you want in the living room. The installation is simple knowing that Kodi is only an application (Windows or Linux). The app launches in full-screen and can be controlled with the TV remote. To read files (local or remote), simply specify the folders that Kodi should scan.
Thanks to Batocera, the machine can be transformed into a retro game console. Batocera is installed as a Linux distribution (a file to be copied to a USB stick with software such as Raspberry Pi Imager or Etcher) and after launch, will allow you to play a multitude of consoles (from the Atari 2600 to the PlayStation 3).
Tips: It is necessary to use a USB stick of at least 16 GB.
The WO4-6900HX mini PC, another model offered by PELADN, has some similarities with the HO4-8845HX. If you look carefully at the front and rear connectors, you can see that they are the same, just the direction is reversed. Also, with the WO4-6900HW, the SSD and RAM are accessible from the top, while with the HO4-8845HX, they can be accessed by unscrewing the underside. The motherboard is probably the same, but mounted the other way around.
The instructions provided mention two RJ45 2.5G ports. However, it is indeed an RJ-45 2.5G port and another RJ-45 1G as indicated on the site.
